You wake up to perfectly beautiful morning realizing that you can’t possibly go to work today. You need time to recuperate from the previous week’s mayhem and you know that your flimsy excuse for work like “I’m not feeling well” will not sit well with management. Shallow excuses for work like this will certainly not help advance in your career. Excuses for work need to be well-thought of and organized to be effective and successful. To serve their purpose, excuses for work should adhere to any of these patterns: a) earn the right to say you deserve a break, b) if your job is in sales or marketing, you can say you’re in a golf game with a client (but make sure you actually meet the client), c) taking a break to go to a doctor’s appointment, d) most women can get away with the “I have the cramps” alibi (but make sure you don’t use that reason more than once a month) and e) you can claim that you’ll be working from the comforts of your home. Before you can even start making excuses for work, you have to ensure that you’ve put in a substantial amount of work in advance and you’ve been showing up very early and leaving quite late at the workplace to be able to say that you deserve that break. One of the advantages of having a job in sales is the usual client call you have to make from time to time where you can say you met up with a client in some sporting activity and take the rest of the day off to relax. If you only need to take a breather for say, half a day, using a physician’s appointment as your excuse for work will allow you breeze through the doctor’s office in an hour or two and spend the rest of the morning or afternoon resting. For the PMS excuse for work, who’s to argue with a woman who claims she has the cramps, right? It’s an excuse for work not clearly understood by men but widely accepted. With the present advances in technology, a lot of people have set up virtual offices in their home – save some time and money in non-commuting by doing some work at home and spending the rest of the day in tranquility. Being able to give an effective excuse for work can afford you the needed time to rejuvenate your mind and body and be able to face more hectic days at work with renewed spirit. |
